मैं जन्म लू भी कि नहीं? (कविता का शीर्षक)
मैं क्या पहनूं,
जो तेरी नज़र मेरे आँचल पर ना पड़े?
मैं किस समय घर से निकलूं,
जो तेरी नौका मेरे बांध से ना सटे?
मैं किस तरह चलूँ,
कि मेरी चाल तुझे न्योता ना लगे?
मैं कैसे बोलूं
जो तेरा खून का दौर सही दिशा में ही बहे?
मैं जन्म लूँ भी कि नहीं,
मैंने तुझे बहला दिया,
कभी तू बाद में कहे।
मैं ये सवाल पूछने बचूंगी ही नहीं
जो शोषण के बाद,
तेरे हाथ तेल और माचिस आ लगे।

English Translation:

Main janam loo bhi ki nahin (Should I take birth or not?) (Title of the Poem)
Main kya pehnu (What should I wear)
Jo teri nazar mere anchal par na pade? (So that you do not have a bad eye on my body)
Main kis samay ghar se niklu (At what time should I leave my home)
Jo teri nauka mere bandh se na sate? (So that we do not cross paths with each other)
Main kis tarha chalu (How should I walk)
Ki meri chaal tujhe nyauta na lage? (So that you do not find my gait inviting for abuse)
Main kaise bolu (How should I speak)
Jo tera khoon ka daur sahi disha mein bahe? (So that you spend your energy in the right manner)
Main janam lu bhi ki nahi (Should I take birth or not)
Main tujhe behla diya (It was I who distracted you)
Kabhi tu baad mein kahe (You may bring this later sometime as an excuse)
Main ye sawal puchne bachungi hi nahi (I will not survive to ask these questions)
Jo shoshan ke baad (If after abuse)
Tere hath tel aur machis aa lage (If you get access to oil and matchstick)

तुम कौन हो (कविता का शीर्षक )

तुम चांद की चंचल चांदनी,
या नवल पात पतझड़ की हो,
तुम ओस बूंद की मोती,
या आंखों की सबकी ज्योति हो,
हर लेती सब कष्ट पल में,
क्या शमशान की भभूती हो,!
तुम सरयू का किनारा ,
या गंगा की अमृत धारा हो,
गज़ब के गीत हो तुम गाती,
क्या राग तुम्ही मल्हार हो..!!
तुम भानु की पहली किरण,
या मुनियों का तुम कुंड हवन,
बड़े मधुर हैं बोल तेरे,
क्या छप्पन भोग मिष्ठान की हो..!
तुम उत्साह वीर जवानों का,
या खलिहान कृषि किसानों की..,
तुम जग की पालनहार,
गुणियों के आचार- विचार,
तुम कृष्ण का प्यार हो,
या राणा की तलवार हो..
बात तेरे खुद दर्शन हैं,
क्या तुम कोई अवतार हो..!!!
सूखा की तुम बदली हो,
या गर्मी की शीतल छाया हो,
रिमझिम की काली रातों का ,
क्या चंदा की कोई साया हो…
तुम जाड़े की प्यारी धूप हो
या कौम की कोई भूप हो..
सब सहके सितम तुम मौन हो..
हे स्त्री,!…
आखिर तुम कौन हो…………????

You are the ever moving moonlight of the moon

Ya naval paat patjhad ki ho

Tum os boond ki moti

Are you a pearl of the dew

Ya akho ki sabki jyoti ho

Or are you the light of everyone’s eye?

Har leti sab kasht pal mei

You ease all the pain in a matter of seconds

Kya shamshan ki bhabhooti ho?

Are you the powder of the graveyard?

Tum saryu ka kinara

Are you the bank of the river Saryu?

Ya Ganga ki amrit dhara ho?

Or are you a water stream of the pure and sacred Ganges

Gazab ke geet ho tum gati

You sing very spectacular songs

Kya rag tumhi malhar ho?

Are you the raga Malhar (in classical music)?

Tum bhanu ki pehli kiran

Are you the first ray of the sun?

Ya muniyo ki tum kund hawan

Or are you the hawan kund (a vessel to perform yajya) of the Munis (personalities who have control over their mind)

Bade madhur hain bol tere

Your words are very sweet

Kya chappan bhog mishthan ki ho

Are you the 56 sweet dishes (chappan bhoga)

Tum utsah veer jawano ka

Are you the enthusiasm of brave soldiers?

Ya khalihan krishi kisano ka

Or the field of agricultural farmers

Tum jag ki palalhar

Are you the caretaker of the entire world?

Guniyon ki achar-vichar

Are you the conduct of good people (with a strong character)

Tum Krishn ka pyar ho

Are you the love of Lord Krishn?

Ya Rana ki talwar ho

Or are you the sword of King Rana?

Baat tere khud darshan hain

Your glimpse is an event in itself

Kya tum koi avtaar ho?

Are you any special incarnation?

Sukha ki tum badli ho

You are the rain for drought affected areas

Ya garmi ki sheetal chaya ho

Or are you the pleasant shade in scorching summers

Rimjhim ki kaali raato ka

Are you the dark night with twinkling stars?

Kya chanda ki koi saya ho

Are you the shadow of the moon?

Tum jaade ki pyari dhoop ho

Are you the warm sunshine of the winters?

Ya kaum ki koi bhoop ho

Or are you the representative of any race of humans

Sab sehke sitam tum maun ho

After suffering from all kinds of tortures, you are silent
