पद का भावार्थ:

संत कबीर दास अपनी इस रचना में कह रहे हैं कि ईश्वर सबको सर्वत्र सुलभ है। जिस ईश्वर को हम बहार ढूंढ रहे हैं, वह हमारे ह्रदय में निवास करता है। ऐसा करते हुए हम एक मीन जैसे हैं जिसका निवास पानी में है किन्तु वह प्यासी ही रह जाती है। संत कबीर कहते हैं कि जीव एक मीन के समान है जो ईश्वर में ही वास करते हुए भी उसका अनुभव नहीं कर पाता | जीव की यह दुर्दशा देख संत कबीर को हंसी आती है।
१. ठीक ठीक तत्त्व ज्ञान न होने के कारण (कि ईश्वर सर्वत्र है एवं सबके ह्रदय में भी है) मनुष्य ईश्वर को बाहर मथुरा एवं काशी जैसे तीर्थ स्थानों में ढूंढ रहा है। यह ठीक उसी प्रकार है जैसे एक कस्तूरी हिरण अपने ही भीतर आ रही सुगन्धि को पूरे वन में खोजती रहती है। हिरण को यह ज्ञान नहीं होता कि सुगंध उसी के भीतर से आ रही है। उसी प्रकार अज्ञान के कारण मनुष्य ईश्वर को अपने अंदर अनुभव न करके बहार खोजता फिरता है।
२. कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जिस परम पुरुष अविनाशी भगवान् का ध्यान मुनि जन दिन रात करते रहते हैं, वही ईश्वर तेरे घट यानि ह्रदय में रहता है।
३. कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार कमल के फूल और कलियाँ पानी के भवरों में गोते खाते रहते हैं, उसी प्रकार यह मन माया के तीनों लोकों में झूलता रहता है।
४. अंत में कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जब तक गुरु सही ज्ञान न दे दे कि ईश्वर सर्वत्र है, मनुष्य उसे दूर ही मानता रहता है। अतः सच्चे गुरु के बिना मनुष्य का अज्ञान नहीं जा सकता।

English Translation:

Saint Kabir Das has revealed in this poetry that God is omnipresent and easily accessible to everyone. The God whom we are searching outside resides inside our heart. Saint Kabir Das compares ignorant humans to fishes that live in water and are yet thirsty. Saint Kabir Das says that ignorant humans are just like a fish who is thirsty despite living in water, just like humans are devoid of divine experience of God as they do not realize that God resides inside their heart as well as everywhere else. Saint Kabir Das cannot stop laughing at this pitiable condition of ignorant souls.
1. Due to lack of correct spiritual knowledge that God is omnipresent and also resides in everyone’s heart, humans are searching for God at external pious places like Mathura and Kashi. Kabir Das Ji compares this situation to that of a musk deer who is unaware that fragrance it smells is originating from its own body and roams about in the forest looking for its source. Similarly, ignorant humans (who reside inside God and God resides inside them) do not experience God’s presence within and keep searching Him outside.
2. The Supreme Power, Creator whom Munis meditate upon day and night, the same God resides inside your heart.
3. The way lotus flowers and its bud are stuck in currents of water, the human mind is absorbed in the three different abodes of Maya.
4. In the end, Kabir Das Ji says that unless one gets true spiritual knowledge from a God realized saint, one cannot know that God is so near and therefore ignorant beings continue to ponder that God is far away from us.
